Caracters generals: Falguera molt gran de rizoma gruixut. Fulles llargament peciolades, foliols lanceolats, asimètrics.
Mida: 50 - 150 cm
Floració: IV -XI
Hàbitat: Vernedes (i altres boscs de ribera).
Distribució general: Atlàntica [Subcosmop.]

És un grup molt antic, del Premià (286 - 245 m.a). Té 3 gèneres i 18 espècies. El gènere osmunda té uns 220 m.a. (Triàsic), és la falguera més gran d'Europa.
